New Jersey and South Carolina
Herons
2024
Herons are the ultimate majestic birds. Their elegant posture and striking plumage, make for some truly captivating shots. With their long legs and graceful necks, they are often seen wading through serene wetlands or gliding over still waters, creating perfect moments to photograph. There are dozens of Heron variations within the Ardiedae family and they vary widely in color, size, and plumage variation.
I am very lucky these birds call New Jersey home during much of their migration. Herons are frequently found enjoying marshes, wetlands, and coastlines, allowing ample opportunities to study and photograph them in the wild. Did you know they have a unique hunting technique called “gular pouching”, where they use their large, expandable throat sac to catch fish? Their beauty and behavior provide naturalists like me endless opportunities to capture their essence in stunning detail. Whether it’s a close-up of their striking eyes or a wide shot of their impressive wingspan, herons are an enchanting and dynamic subject for images of wildlife photography
